Inhabited for over 5000 years, Ustica was called Osteodes by the ancient Greeks – meaning “ossuary” – a grim reminder of the 6000 mercenaries the Carthaginians abandoned here to starve. With its seabed teeming with vibrant coral, sponges, red and brown algae and stunning madrepores, Ustica is a true paradise for divers. Its underwater wonders are safeguarded within a protected marine reserve, making it one of the most spectacular diving destinations in the Mediterranean.
