Nestled on a hillside, Sambuca di Sicilia is a historic fiefdom granted in 1185 by William II to the Monreale Church. Just 7 kilometers away, the Monte Adranone archaeological site reveals the remains of a 6th-century BC Greek settlement – Adranon, as mentioned by Diodorus Siculus – built over an even older site. The excavations include a necropolis, the South Gate, towers, buildings, warehouses, shops and homes.
At the highest point stands the acropolis, featuring a vast Punic temple with a rectangular layout, alongside a large cistern. From here, visitors are treated to a stunning 360-degree view.
